LECHERY - Violator |
A: 11 € |
B: 13 € |

|
There are many bands out
there who tried to imitate the unique guitar
sound of German Metal heroes ACCEPT, but all
of them failed. Even HAMMERFALL and U.D.O.
never really nailed it. But now the Swedish
newcomers LECHERY finally deliver an album
that really comes close to the classic
ACCEPT guitar sound. The band around former
ARCH ENEMY-member Martin Bengtsson unleash a
storm of riffs that brings back the
elemental force of Heavy Metal. And the good
thing about it is that it hits you without
any True Metal clichès like swords and
dragons. LECHERY simply rock! Well, and
besides heavy riffs they have enough space
in their songs for beautiful melodies and
great lead guitar harmonies. So the one or
the other song can not deny a touch of THIN
LIZZY, for example the highly melodic „I Am
The One“. With Phil Lynott on vocals the
song would have fit well on „Thunder &
Lightning“. Well, and with „Your Fate“ the
album includes maybe one of the Metal
anthems for the year 2008. I really missed a
song of that calibre on the last HAMMERFALL
album. I am sure, „Your Fate“ will do great
live, because even the keyboards in the
middle-part don't affect its power. The only
little weak point about LECHERY is singer
Martin Bengtsson's vocals which lack a bit
of variation. He has a lot of power in his
voice, but a limited range. However, since
everything else on this record sounds fine,
the overall impression is extremely
positive. Heavy Metal fans should not miss
this album!

SANDALINAS - Fly To The Sun |
A: 11 € |
B: 13 € |
|
|
|

|
SANDALINAS' debut,
„Living On The Edge“, of the year 2005, was
a very promising Hard Rock album. Now the
band around guitarist Jordi Sandalinas
finally delivers the follow-up. „Fly To The
Sun“ is a concept album that was recorded
under the guidance of producer Andy LaRocque
(KING DIAMOND) and with the help of a
backing band, consisting of singer Rick
Altzi (AT VANCE) and the two Yngwie
Malmsteen-members Mick Cervino (bass) and
Patrick Johansson (drums). Compared with the
pretty straight debut, „Fly To The Sun“
features a more complex songwriting and
arrangements. So it takes a little longer
till the new material displays all its
strength and comes to full shine. Anyhow,
Rick Altzi turns out to be a lucky choice
for the band, because his powerful and
charismatic voice in the vein of Jorn Lande
and Zak Stevens leaves a strong mark on the
new songs. The Swedish singer can be very
proud of his performance that can definitely
keep up with the very fine guitar-playing of
bandleader Jordi Sandalinas. The musical
direction of „Fly To The Sun“ can be
described best as a mixture of AT VANCE,
Axel Rudi Pell and Jorn Lande's solo
releases. If you have a weakness for those
acts, then you will definitely appreciate
songs like the fast and powerful opener „Fly
To The Sun“ that even reminds me of melodic
RUNNING WILD, the slow paced and very
intense „As The Rain Falls“, the dark and
balladesque „Shadow In The Rain“ that would
have fit perfectly on SAVATAGE's „Handful Of
Rain“, the slightly bluesy „The Healer
Talks“ and the closing and very melancholic
„Seasons In The Sand“. A special mention
must be given to the production by Andy La
Rocque who gave the album a very clear and
perfectly balanced sound. Oh, and before I
forget, the album features guest appearances
by SAVATAGE guitarist Chris Caffery and
former DREAM THEATER keyboarist Derek
Sherenian. If you are looking for an
intelligently made Hard Rock/Heavy Metal
album that keeps growing on you for many
weeks, then you can't go wrong with
SANDALINAS' „Fly To The Sun“.

giving
them
that
pure
raw
Rock

which

so
popular
these
days.
However,
with
“Fallin’”,
the
band
also
has
a
slower
semi-ballad
on
their
album,
but
mainly
we
get
to
hear
raw
dirty

sleazy
Rock

with
as

“Sweet

“Miss

and
“Ride

WARRIOR - Fighting For The Earth |
A: 13 € |
B: 15,5 € |
|
|
 |
Warrior
is a
band
as
legendary
as
they
can
get
in
the
metal
circuit,
without
being
a
well
known
act.
They
released
their
first
album
in
1985,
and
soon
enjoyed
a
cult
following.
But
despite
getting
rave
reviews,
and
even
getting
the
title
track
aired
on
MTV,
the
band
couldn't
get
it
together
to
record
a
sophomore
effort.
And
when
the
musical
climate
changed
in
the
US,
the
band
was
laid
to
rest.
And
even
though
Metal
Blade
Records
reissued
the
album
in
1991,
'Fighting
For
The
Earth'
remains
today
one
of
the
most
sought
after
metal
gems
on
the
planet,
highly
overdue
for
this
eagerly
awaited
re-release.
Nothing
better
than
a
band
that
can
record
a
metal
anthem
like
"Fighting
For
The
Earth"!
Joe

staccato
riffs

Parramore

raspy

EVA - Blue |
A: 13 € |
B: 15,5 € |

Some
melodic
rockers
may
remember
this
Italian
outfit,
which
released
their
debut
“One”
way
back
in
2001
on
our
own
label.
It
took
them
seven
years
to
come
up
with
a
follow
up,
but
it
was
worth
the
wait,
cause
“Blue”
not
only
continues
the
classic
80s
AOR
style
of
the
debut,
it
also
contains
a
much
stronger
songwriting.
It
really
doesn’t
matters
if
singer
Angelo
Grassi’s
accent
shines
through,
cause
EVA
has
exactly
this
kind
of
polished
and
keyboard
friendly
AOR
in
the
vein
of
JOURNEY,
BAD
ENGLISH
and
TOTO
on
offer,
which
most
of
the
hardcore
AOR
junkies
are
listening
to
all
day
and
night.
Walls
of
keyboards,
radio
friendly
hooklines
and
plenty
of
melodies
all
over
the
place

what
more

you
want

STAMINA - Permanent Damage |
A: 13 € |
B: 15,5 € |
|
|
 |
STAMINA
hails
from
Salerno
in
Italy
and
their
debut
“Permanent
Damage”
is a
quite
nice
surprise
package,
cause
the
Italian
five
pieces
mixes
elements
from
AOR,
melodic
rock,
melodic
power
metal,
progressive
metal
and
even
some
fusion
rock
parts
into
a
very
personal
and
unique
sound,
without
loosing
the
red
line.
Take
the
opener
“Tell
The
Truth”
for
example,
which
starts
as a
a
pure
melodic
rocker
with
a
strong
hookline,
but
after
the
chorus
the
tempo
changes
the
track
into
a
great
power
metal
tune
and
to
the
end
it
turns
back
into
a
melodic
rocker.
STAMINA
offers
plenty
of
variety,
which
we
don’t
hear
that
often
these
days
from
melodic
rock-
and
metal
bands.
A
very
intersting
debut,
give
it a
try. |

AVANTASIA - The Scarecrow + DVD (limited edition) |
A: 13 € |
B: 15,5 € |
|

The
first
two
AVANTASIA
records
by
Tobias
Sammet
(EDGUY)
are
modern
classics
of
“Melodic
Metal

in
Germany”.
Now
he
finally
delivers
a
new
album
and
one
more
time
it
kicks
ass!
“The
Scarecrow”
has
nothing
to
do
with
the
concept
story
the
first
two
CDs
and
the
music
moves
in a
slightly
different
direction,
but
it's
another
great
and
interesting
Melodic
Metal
album.
The
album
features
several
guest
singers
(a.
o.
Alice
Cooper,
Jorn
Lande,
Bob
Catley)
and
includes
a
tracklist
ranging
from
epic
tracks
in
the
vein
of
MAGNUM
(“Cry
Just
A
Little”)
to
powerful
Melodic
Metal
stuff
(“Shelter
From
The
Rain”)
and
a
little
more
modern
material
(“Carry
Me
Over”).
Let's
cut
it
short,
“The
Scarecrow”
is
the
next
classic! |

LEVERAGE - Blind Fire |
A: 13 € |
B: 15,5 € |
|
|
 |
LEVERAGE's
debut,
“Tides”,
was
one
of
the
most
impressive
releases
in
2006.
Among
others,
the
album
entered
the
Finnish
charts
and
melodicrock.com
named
it
the
best
Metal/Prog
album
of
the
year.
With
“Blind
Fire”
the
guys
around
singer
Pekka
Heino
(BROTHER
FIRETRIBE)
show
that
their
debut
was
not
a
flash
in
the
pan.
The
new
record
features
another
10
great
songs
which
live
in
particularly
on
atmospheric
arrangements
and
strong
vocal
melodies.
Frontiers
Records
describe
the
album
rightly
with
the
words
“RAINBOW
and
MAGNUM
sound
meeting
the
power
of
STRATOVARIUS
and
MASTERPAN”.
If
you
like
one
of
the
mentioned
acts,
then
don't
hesitate
and
order
“Blind
Fire”. |

BATON ROUGE - Lights Out On The Playground |
A: 12 € |
B: 14,5 € |

One
year
after
the
“Shake
Your
Soul”
BATON
ROUGE
released
their
2nd
album,
“Lights
Out
On
The
Playground”.
Again
the
album
was
produced
by
Jack
Ponti
(a.
o.
BON
JOVI,
Alice
Cooper)
who
also
helped
out
with
some
songwriting
contributions.
Even
though
the
record
couldn't
keep
up
with
the
debut,
it
is
still
a
tidbit
for
all
lovers
of
bands
like
DAMN
YANKEES,
BANGALORE
CHOIR
and
BABYLON
A.D.
The
album's
best
songs
are
the
opener
“Slave
To
The
Rhythm”,
the
groovy
“Tie
You
Up”
and
the
powerful
ballad
“Desperate”.
Since
all
other
songs
are
also
pretty
enjoyable,
“Lights

is
almost
another
must-have
for
fans
of

When
BATON

their
debut,
“Shake

in
1990
the
best

Never-theless
the
band
was
backed
up
by
Atlantic
Records
and
producer/co-songwriter
Jack
Ponti
(a.
o.
BON
JOVI,
Alice
Cooper).
Commercially
the
album
was
not
overly
successful,
but
that
doesn't
say
anything
about
its
qualities.
“Shake
Your
Soul”
features
12
songs,
ranging
from
highly
melodic
and
powerful
rockers
(for
example
“Walks
Like
A
Woman”,
“Big
Trouble”,
“Bad
Time
Comin'

to
sensitive
ballads
(“It's

“There

ICON - Right Between The Eyes |

For
the
most
people
ICON
will
always
be

by
their
legendary
“Night

album.
However,
“Right

of

shouldn't
be
underrated
and
in
the
last
years
it
has
become
a
real
hot

In
view
of
great

“Two

(feat.
Alice

“In

“Running

I
can
totally
understand.
Well,
and
with
“A
Far

and
“Holy
Man's
War”
the
album
includes
two
of
the
best
songs

Not
at
least
a
merit
of
singer

whose

No

SAINT DEAMON - In The Shadows Lost From The Brave |
A: 13 € |
B: 15,5 € |
|
|
 |
When
I
put
“In
The
Shadows
Lost
From
The
Brave”
in
my
CD-player
I
had
no
idea
what
going
to
hit
me.
Judging
from
the
boring
cover
artwork
I
expected
a
trivial
True
Metal-album
that
I
would
never
listen
to
again.
But
then
I
heard
the
opener,
“My
Judas”,
a
massive
Melodic
Metal-anthem
in
the
style
of
EDGUY,
and
everything
changed.
Some
investigation
unveil
that
SAINT
DEAMON
feature
musicians
who
already
co-wrote
songs
for
renown
acts
like
PRIMAL
FEAR,
SINNER
and
RIDE
THE

So
it's
no
longer
a
mystery
why
their
album
is
very
much
in
the
vein
of
these
acts
and
can
easily
keep
up
with
them.
Go
and
check
it

I am
sure
that

BASSINVADERS - Hellbassbeaters |
A: 13 € |

|
|
 |
Heavy
Metal
without
keyboards?
Sure.
Heavy
Metal
without
vocals?
Sometimes.
Heavy
Metal
without
guitars?
Interesting
question!
Would
be
worth
a
try.
I
guess
that
were
the
thoghts
of
Markus
Grosskopf
(HELLOWEEN),
Peavy
Wagner
(RAGE),
Tom
Angelripper
(SODOM)
and
Schmier
(DESTRUCTION)
when
they
formed
the
BASSINVADERS
project.
The
14
songs
on
their
album
were
recorded
without
any
guitars.
Instead,
they
and
some
guests
let
just
vibrate
their
basses
and
their
voices.
It's
really
enjoyable
to
listen
to
two
or
three
songs
in
that
style,
but
over
a
whole
album
it
quickly
gets
boring
and
monotonous.
So
after

one

One

"Downburst"
is a
mix
of
Heavy

Power
Metal
that
reminds
me a
lot
of
some
of
Primal
Fear's
material.
The
album
is
very
upbeat,
pretty
"positive
sounding"
overall,
with
only
a
few
passages
that
sound
a
little
bit
darker,
but
not
much
-
this
is
not
music
to

The
vocal
work
is
often
not
unlike
what
you'd
hear
from

Scheepers
when
they're
singing
in
lower

and
sometimes
sounding
more
"sober",
in a
hard
rock-ish
kind
of
way
(there's
a
little
Dokken
vibe
from
time
to
time).
I
could
almost
go
as
far
as
to
say
that
the
vocals
are
the
highlight

as
the
singer
Andy

BENEDICTUM
are
San
Diego
latest
and
mightiest
ambassadors
to
the
world
of
heavy
metal.
Conjuring
the
power,
mystique
and
grandeur
of
early
Rainbow
and
classic
Savatage
yet
forging
a
sound
thats
uniquely
their
own
they
took
the
metal
world
by
storm
with
their
cracking
debut
“Uncreation”.
Two
years
later
BENEDICTUM
needs
to
proove
that
this
great
debut
shot
was
not
just
an
one
off
affair,
but
you
can
relax,
cause
even
if
you
might
think
after
the
moody
intro
“Dawn
Of
Seasons”
that
the
band
has
been
wimped
out
you’ll
get
hit
with
a
sledgehammer
by
the
following
“Shell
Shock”
and
that
is
just
the
beginning.
BENEDICTUM
are
back
with
a
vengeance
and
makes
no
prisoners
with
“Seasons
Of
Tragedy”. |

AYREON - 01011001 – double CD + DVD – special edition |
A: 19,5 € |
B: 23,5 € |
|
|
 |
Here
it
is,
the
new
release
from
AYREON.
And
even
more
than
on
the
other
albums
it
is
very
hard
to
explain
what
you
will
get.
"01011001"
includes
more
than
100
minutes
of
music,
but
it
feels
like
you
listen
to
1000
minutes
in
the
end.
Just
to
give
you
an
idea
what
you
can
expect,
take
RAMMSTEIN,
GENESIS,
PINK
FLOYD
and
a
bit
BLACKMORE’S
NIGHT
and
mix
it
together.
But
it`s
way
more
than
that.
Of
course
there
are
again
a
lot
of
well
known
singers
included
in
this
project,
like
Steve
Lee
from
GOTTHARD,
Hansi
Kürsch
(BLIND
GUARDIAN),
Bob
Catley
or
Simone
Simons
(EPICA),
just
to
name
a
few.
It
takes
some
time
to
really
get
into
the
music
and
the
story,
but
it`s
worth
the
time
for
sure. |

SKAGARACK - Skagarack
+5 |
A: 13,5 € |
B: 16 € |
|
|
 |
The debut from Torben Schmidt &
Co hit the scene way back in 1986 like a sledgehammer - the album is full of AOR
anthems like „Move It In The Night“, the sensational „I’m Alone“, the rockin’
„Damned Nation“ and so on - it’s hard to state a fave track while the album is
full of highlights. The production is powerful and crystal clear while the mix
of guitars and keyboards is simply perfect and it was a proof that the Europeans
can also come up with great AOR stuff which wasn’t that self-evident way back in
1986 while the Yanks did dominate the AOR market. Digitally remastered by Torben
Schmidt himself with the addition of 5 bonus tracks (1 unreleased studio track,
3 live tracks, 1 extended version).

THRASHER Burning At The Speed Of
Light |
A: 13 € |
B: 15,5 € |
|
|
 |
THRASHER was one of the very first
all-star projects led by THE RODS drummer Carl Canedy with songwriting help from
guitarist Andy MacDonald (THE RODS, BLUE CHEER). The basic idea was to get NY’s
best heavy metal musos together and with the likes of Brad Sinsel (TKO), Rhett
Forrester (RIOT), Billy Sheehan MR. BIG), James Rivera (HELSTAR), Dan Beehler
(EXCITER), Dan Spitz (ANTHRAX) or Jack Starr (VIRGIN STEELE) amongst many others
the line-up is indeed very impressive. Music wise it doesn’t surprise that
“Burning At..” sounds like a mixture between THE RODS and early VIRGIN STEELE –
classic 80s US metal. Limited edition re-issue (2000 copies, numbered), digi
pack. |

ALLIANCE - Destination Known – double CD
|
A: 8 € |
B: 9,5 € |
|
|
 |
Escape
Records
are
back
in
the
game
with
a
very
recommendable
rerelease
of
the
first
two
ALLIANCE
album.
Behind
the
band
name
ALLIANCE
there
are
4
well
known
AOR
cracks:
David
Lauser
(Sammy
Hagar),
Alan
Fitzgerald
(Night
Ranger),
Gary
Pihl
(Boston)
and
singer
Robert
Berry.
Both
albums
deliver
first
class
AOR
stuff
in
the
vein
of
SIGNAL
meets
HEARTLAND,
as
you
can
hear
on
tracks
like
“Second
Chance”
or
“Young
Blood”,
to
name
only
two.
Escape
Records
added
8
bonus
tracks,
remastert
the
sound
of
both
albums
and
finished
the
package
with
a
new
artwork.
A
third
album
will
be
released
later
in
2007.
Good
news! |

EYEWITNESS - Eyewitness & Messiah Complex – double CD |
A: 8 € |
B: 9,5 € |
|
|
 |
EYEWITNESS
was
formed
by
Ralph
Santolla
and
drummer
Oliver
Hanson
after
Santolla
was
asked
to
produce
the
drummer's
then-band.
EYEWITNESS,
also
featuring
Keith
Sterling,
Shawn
Phillips
and
vocalist
Todd
Plant,
was
duly
created
and
rapidly
became
an
in-demand
act
on
the
Florida
touring
circuit.
A
set
of
demos
caught
the
attention
of
British
AOR
specialists
Now
And
Then
Records
and
EYEWITNESS
was
signed
up
for
an
eponymous
1995
debut
album.
The
act
appeared
at
the
Now
And
Then
Records
Gods
'95
spectacular
at
the
Astoria
2 in
London
in
early
1995
to
coincide
with
the
release
of
their
debut
album.
A
follow-up
album,
"Messiah
Complex",
was
only
ever
released
in
Japan.
A
dark
and
lyrically
deep
LP,
this
did
not
fare
so
well
with
fans
or
critics
-
although
some
maintain
the
CD
is
an
unappreciated
classic. |

TONY MILLS - Freeway To The Afterlife |
A: 5,5 € |
B: 6,5 € |
|
|
 |
With
a
career
that
spans
almost
three
decades
already,
SHY
front
man
Tony
Mills
returns
with
the
release
of
his
latest
solo
project
entitled
“Freeway
to
the
Afterlife”.
The
first
thing
I
must
say
about
“Freeway
to
the
Afterlife”
is
that
if
you
purchase
this
looking
for
material
similar
to
what
you
are
use
to
hearing
from
SHY,
you’ll
be
in
for
a
HUGE
surprise.
Tony
has
put
together
a
nine-song
collection
which
is
very
different
from
anything
you
have
heard
from
him
before.
“Freeway
to
the
Afterlife”
is a
mixture
of
various
styles
ranging
from
blues
to
soul
to
funk
to
jazz.
All
the
tracks
are
very
unique
in
their
own
right
but
Tony
is
able
to
maintain
the
overall
feel
and
texture
throughout
the
CD,
which
blends
these
varying
influences
into
an
absolute
nuance
that
any
true
music
lover
can
appreciate. |

SANDALINAS - Living On The Edge |
A: 4,5 € |
B: 5,5 € |
|
|
 |
SANDALINAS
is
the
new
project
of
Spanish
guitar
virtuoso
Jordi
Sandalinas.
Under
the
direction
of
producer
Andy
La
Rocque
(KING
DIAMOND)
and
with
the
help
of
ex-MEDUZA
singer
Apollo,
he
has
created
a
strong
Hard
Rock
album
that
the
friends
of
AXEL
RUDI
PELL,
TEN
and
BRA-ZEN
ABBOT
will
highly
appreciate.
The
ten
songs
rock
straight
forward
and
get
dominated
by
Sandalinas'
powerful
riffs
and
Apollo's
strong
vo-cals.
To
get
an
idea
of
what
I
mean,
check
out
the
anthemic
title
track,
the
fast-paced
and
very
AXEL
RUDI
PELL-like
“All
Along
The
Everglades”,
the
dark
“Follow
Me”
and
the
highly
melodic
“If
It
Wasn't
For
You”.
SANDALINAS
don't
re-invent
the
genre,
but
they
definitely
know
their
biz.
